Confusion galore
The unwritten courtesy conduct in the Lok Sabha calls for the Prime Minister to go up to the Leader of Opposition and thank him/her for the passage of Bills. However, on the day the Nuclear Liability Bill was passed, it was left to Pranab Mukherjee to cross over to the Opposition benches to express his gratitude. This took many of the parliamentarians by surprise and caused confusion. Later, AIADMK's Munisamy Thambidurai who was presiding the session called for Zero Hour. But as soon as some Trinamool MPs began to speak, a senior minister went to the podium and told Thambidurai that the House is usually adjourned after such Bills are passed and no other business taken up. He then abruptly adjourned the House, causing more confusion in the House.
Food For Thought
The government has admitted that the quality of food served in some of the departmental canteens is not up to the mark and inferior to the ones offered by private canteens that are being run parallel in some of these offices. A circular issued by Rajiv Manjhi, Director, Canteens, Department of Personnel and Training, has requested the concerned authorities to ensure quality of eatables in the government canteens by using branded or genuine products, and displaying the raw materials used to enthuse the staff. Interestingly, the circular has also reached the secretariats of the President and the Vice-President despite the fact that the food served in the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the VP's House by the in-house canteens is the best.

No Monkey Business
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is quite upset with the falling decorum of the House. The
Troika of Yadavs -- SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav and RJD chief
Lalu Prasad Yadav -- has been driving her up the wall with regular defiance of her authority.
The last straw came when a "mock" session was held with Lalu as "prime minister". Finding
herself helpless, she has called for an all-party meeting, involving the Prime Minister and
Sonia Gandhi, to find a solution to put the House in order. She has also drawn up a list
of around 60 MPs who participated in the mock session, and will urge party leaders to decide
what exemplary punishment should be imparted so that such acts are not repeated in Parliament.
Guess it will take Kumar to act like a strict headmistress to be in control of her class.
